No, this is not a late April Fools joke, this is actually happening! The Moderator+ team has worked on setting up a new tournament which will be held on Friday, April 29th until Saturday, May 21st.
Team leaders are now allowed to sign up in the "Tournament" section. Please check out the rules here before entering.
Matches will be starting at around 19:30 UTC (use this website to convert to your own timezone) so make sure you can play at these times before signing up. However, on the signup form you can say whether or not you're available on a friday, saturday or both allowing us to organise the matches according to availability.
New changes for this tournament:
We will be having group stages in order to fairly have seeds according to group rankings.
Every team is able to create an own team banner which will be presented in the hub.
Staff members will record the whole tournament using the ReplayMod.
If a team has not enough players to play a match and no substitutes are available, such a team can replace one player with another who is available, meaning it will not have to forfeit. However, if this team wins the tournament, the player who was replaced will not get any credit as they were dropped. We are introducing this rule to reduce the chances of getting forfeits, but it can only be used once.
Each team will have its own password protected TeamSpeak channel. It is their choice if they want to use the channel for communication.
The tournament will be streamed live on twitch.tv/waffletastic so make sure to follow this channel. Prepare for good commentary, special guests and giveaways where you have the chance to win kits, pets, particles and much more!
Submissions close on Saturday, April 23rd so hurry up and enter if you want to be crowned!
Today, MCBall is pleased to welcome the newest additions to the Staff team - meet Icebox3d and Octobox! They are very experienced and ambitious developers that will be bringing MCBall to the next level. Many new and exciting changes are coming to MCBall that are being made possible by both Icebox and Octobox.
Icebox is an exceptional Java programmer and will be working on adding new ingame features to MCBall. Octobox is not only a developer but also a superb designer that will be adding new features/changes to the website. They've worked together in the past as a team on numerous projects in both web design and server management.
Be sure if you see them around the server or forums to say hello and introduce yourself! I'm looking forward to the future with the addition of Icebox3d and Octobox to the MCBall family, and you should too!
This has been on my mind for a while and it is with mixed feelings that I write this, but it is finally my time. I am resigning my position as Community Manager on MCBall.
For various reasons I have been unable to work on MCBall for the amount of time that I would have liked. University work has increased, especially around exam season, and various events in my life have both taken up serious amounts of my time and also sapped my enthusiasm for the kind of work that I do. All of this has led to what I believe is insufficient time to sufficiently execute my duties as Community Manager. For a while I was happy to stay and do what I could, but it has become clear that the community is unable to cope with such an arrangement.
In that vein, I have a two final requests. Firstly, I appeal to all of you to stop being so negative and toxic. The current situation is not ideal, but it has been blown way out of proportion by repeated scaremongering and complaining. Be nice to one another, focus on what is good and I guarantee the community will feel much better as a whole. Secondly, stop harassing staff. This has become a problem, especially for the admin team. If it weren't for the hardworking members of staff, MCBall would be a long-forgotten dream. Complaining about staff, insulting staff or repeatedly implying that staff are acting in bad faith are not only bad form but can be deeply hurtful, degrading and demoralising. I plea that as they continue to voluntarily spend their time keeping MCBall alive that you would give them all the courtesy of a friendly working environment.
It has been an interesting three years. We've had ups and downs, we've had eight tournaments, and a lot of fun. I remember three years ago when kr8tors messaged me saying that I would be promoted to moderator I said it "would feel amazing", and it has. I've enjoyed both playing in and organising tournaments, playing with you all, and working on cool new things to bring to the community. We've had two entirely new hubs, around twenty new maps, and scores of gameplay updates. I would like to thank everyone I've played with, the staff members I've worked with, and waffletastic for making MCBall in the first place. I would especially like to thank Knackehaxan and SupaHam who have given so much and supported me through my time as an administrator on MCBall. Finally, I would like to thank my brother for constantly pushing me to do more awesome things and to stick with MCBall throughout.
I may stop in on occasion, but for the present this is it. I wish you all the best in your future endeavors. Farewell!
